Factuality

By Richard F. Yates

In poetry
I can lie like a sonnuvabitch
and get away with it

Because the truth of a poem
isn’t related
to its historical factuality

It’s in the fingers of the wind
wrinkles on memories
and promises of pleasures
in the dark
